The Big Day of Giving is a 24-hour online giving challenge that brings together the region’s nonprofit community to help raise much needed unrestricted funds and shine a spotlight on the work nonprofits do to make the Sacramento region the place we call home. For the past few years, the Big Day of Giving has united our community, raising more than $16 million for local nonprofits from over 36,000 donors from all over the region, the state, the country, and the world.
For our three local non-profits it can make a tremendous difference as it brings each organization and Foresthill out into the limelight (region wide).  Our goal is to raise $15,000 or more – $5,000 for each organization – that may not sound like much to larger non-profits but to these groups it would be tremendous boost!
The Big Day of Giving is driven by social media – that means that our participation and yours is seen by the entire Sacramento Region.  Follow the hastag #BDOG2017 and find out more at www.bigdayofgiving.org
How Do Prize Pledges Work?

Let’s say my business wants to donate a total of $100 on the Big Day of Giving. I can pledge that $100. to whichever group has the most amount of money by noon on the Big Day of Giving.  Once you make the pledge we will help it go a bit viral. Each group will be using it in their promotions. Each group will WANT to win that $100 and will keep posting a running tally as they get there – if it is close this can be very exciting! Once a group wins, your pledge continues to be announced in thank you’s throughout the day and after the event.  It is a lot of great promotion for you and helps a very good cause – and even though you may not actually be donating to each individual group with a contest like this you are HELPING them by bringing attention to them – which is a big part of social media campaigns and a win all around! 

I am assisting with the virtual campaigns of all three groups so if you do choose to do a pledge for a certain time I will contact each organization directly after your time expires and confirm tallies – I will then notify you and you can then go on line to the winner’s page at www.bigdayofgiving.org 
and make your pledge payment. We will, of course, create memes congratulating the winner and thanking you! You may use copies of the memes for your organization in newsletters, social media, etc..
I track how this particular virtual campaign goes by using hashtags like #BDOG2017 – enter it and check out some of the cool meme’s. This really is a rather fun and exciting fund raiser. If you are thinking about dipping your toes into social media to help promote your business this is a fun way to do it.
Matching funds are also always a win/win! You can make a pledge to each group separately, or do as Golden One has done and offer a Matching Fund Pool.

Whichever way you choose to donate we will include your organization in all future promos… we will create memes (such as the one created here for Golden 1) to use on Facebook, Twitter and in our e-newsletters.

Top Dog of Foresthill Contest
The Big Day of Giving aka Big DOG uses dogs as part of the theme for the day. Since this whole event is driven by social media we will need to create a lot of memes (pictures with words) and for that we need A LOT of dog photos!  Our three non-profits: The Foresthill Friends of the Library, Elijah’s Jar and The Foresthill Swimming Pool are having a great deal of fun with our Top Dog of Foresthill Photo Contest on Facebook. Everyone is invited to submit their favorite photo.
Contests like this are a great way to engage the community before, during and even after our event.  We are hoping to be able to give our dogs a bone and prizes donated for each organization’s Pack Leader & for Top Dog of Foresthill will be awarded at the upcoming Foresthill Community Art Show, May 20th.
