Sunol, Ca – Alameda County

Sunol California is in itself an enigma. You know that movie where they were out hiking and they got lost in a cave and when they came out on the other side, they came out to pre-historic times? That is Sunol in a nutshell. San Francisco Water ( Hetch-Hetchy)is filtered there, Hearst “in-law” victorian houses and the town has not grown by one house ever,……something is wrong with that ;). I did telephone work in Sunol for over twenty years and in that time I didn’t see one new house or building go up. In the 60’sย it was a favorite hang out for the Hell’s Angels, now it has a Water Temple, it’s own railroad the Niles Canyon Railway, Elliston Winery and a statue of the one time dog Major Bosco (I met the real Bosco a couple of times ๐Ÿ˜‰ in front of the Post Office. If you are ever in the area, take the turn to Sunol from Foothill Road or Niles Canyon and you might just see a bed race ๐Ÿ˜‰
